I spend most of today out in the field, scoping out challenge locations. Berghain looks eerie and deserted. It’s likely the exact opposite at night. I need some swimming trunks…

Location: Berlin
Start: May 15
End: June 13
Goals: Employment, Sustenance, and a list of Challenges
After coming back from dinner last night, I promised myself a nap. Well a nap turned into a full nigth of sleep. Crap! The night before I was out until nearly 5:00 am with some new friends at a bar called Zapata.
Today I read tweets from @bernmatthews , @_noni_ , @gulddina , @cmsimike and @jitle.
If you’ve got le Facebook, I’ve just created a Facebook page for the show. Become a fan!
I have completed my first challenge: “Eat a pretzel in front of the Brandenburg Gate.” Boom. That was easy.⢠Now on to the next.
Last night I whipped up a little Web application for tracking my life’s lists. Check it out and make your own at slashlists.com
Thanks for watching and sharing this episode! Next up is Day 5!
This is a piece painted on an old newspaper found at the Tacheles art house. I’ve been spending a lot of time there and thoroughly enjoy its atmosphere, albeit it’s a bit touristy. I have deemed this my new motto.
Keep doing shit.
I’m getting in touch with my inner artists and spending small sums of money to do so. I’ve acquired a hat and a grunge patch that reads “War is Illegal.” Such a patch goes directly on the hip messenger bag.
I ran into an American girl last night on a similar journey.
And some new challenges are in:
- Find a restaurant with air conditioning, free public restrooms and free refills that is not McDonald’s or Burger King
- Challenge a street performer to a dance off
- Get a ride around the Nürnbergring
- Find an Ampelfrau
A big, big shoutout today to iJustine and all of the people who have shared this show. I would buy beers for all of you, but my bank account would be quickly depleted. And I don’t believe in credit card debt.
I start off today’s episode with a quick tour of my place. It’s a single-bedroom spot in Kreuzberg located on Kottbusser Damm. It’s 40 square meters. I have no idea what that means.
The list of challenges are in! They are as follows:
- Try to get into the club Berghain
- Go on a date with a German girl, only speak in German
- Sunbathe nude in the Tiergarten
- Ride the S-Bahn ring , drinking a beer at each of the 27 stops
- Attend Oktoberfest
- Get a signature from a German footballer
- Get arrested
- Rebuild the Berlin Wall
- Take a picture riding one of the horses on top of the Brandenburg Gate
- Go to Amsterdam
- Swim in the Badeschiff
- Go to the Klub der Republik
It definitely looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me over the next month. Thanks everyone for submitting some challenges! If you’ve got any more, feel free to send them to the @OneMonthHere Twitter account.
In the meantime, share episodes with friends! The button is located at the bottom of the player. Thanks!
So I spent all of today traveling and I am beat. I flew from Los Angeles to Berlin with a layover in New York. I didn’t get much sleep in on the plane. On my flight from New York to Berlin, I sat next to a make-up artist from Leipzig and got to practice my German a little bit. Now let the craziness begin.
The challenges have been coming in. If you have anything you think I should do or see while in Berlin, send me an @ reply on Twitter to @OneMonthHere.
Stay tuned for the next episode for a tour of my apartment!
So I’m leaving tomorrow for Berlin! Unfortunately I’ve had a few hiccups. My friend accidentally swiped my wallet and I thought it had been stolen. I cancelled all of my cards, so now I will be traveling to Berlin without any debit cards! It’s frightening to say the least.
If you’d like to submit any challenges to me or follow my progress, check out the @OneMonthHere Twitter account.
I’ll be flying out tomorrow morning and documenting my travels. Stay tuned for the next episode!
Here’s the second video! It’s a short one, but I talka bout finding a flight with the rock-bottom prices out there.
The One Month Here Experiment is a little challenge I’ve put myself to. I will be living in Berlin from May 15th to June 13th this year with nothing; I don’t know anyone in the city.
If you’d like to get in touch with, “at” me on Twitter: @KellySutton.
Please leave some feedback on the episode and let me know if you’d like to see anything in the future.
This is the first video of something I’m calling the “One Month Here” experiment. I will try to live in Berlin, Germany for a month and get by.
A little bit about me: my name is Kelly Sutton and I currently study computer science and film production at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I started a little blog and podcast for college students called HackCollege. I’ll be working at Blip.tv this summer. Before I do that, I’ll be living in Berlin.
Each episode will contain:
- Updates
- Word of the Episode
- Something I’ve Learned
- Anything else I feel like throwing in
I’ll be trying to put up episodes as often as I can.
The best way to get in touch with me is via Twitter: @KellySutton.
